Best French students habits

Uncategorized May 05, 2020

We all have some, we don't even notice most of them anymore.

But as a student, your habits impact your life more than you can imagine.

Lets have a bit of think of all the layers that we can scratch  when it comes to habits.

I am going to try not to use words like bad to good, I'd rather you think of the habits as whether they serve you well or not. (I mean, obviously, there are some bad...really bad habits but lets not go there.)

First, break down everything you have to do in a day as a students, from the moment you wake until you turn the light off at night.

  • sleep :  do you sleep enough ? do you go to bed relaxed or take work with you ? is your room buzzing with electronics, messages and blue light all night ?
  • food : are you actually nourishing yourself ? do you have too many coffees ? not enough water ?
  • exercise and well being  : are you getting enough fresh air ? are you moving enough ? are you paying attention to how you feel ?
  • in class : can you stay focused for the whole time ? are you more alert at different moments of the day ? are you easily distracted ? do you participate much ? question new info ?
  • with friends : do you ask questions about school or something you haven't quite understood ? do you like working and studying with a friend or alone ?
  • homework : do you need a break or a meal when you get home before you start or you prefer getting into it right away? Do you study late at night or do you have a break up time no matter what? is your study space comfortable and adequately set up, quiet and has good lighting ?
  • content : do you make sure you understand everything that you learn or rote learning is your thing ? do you try to extend your knowledge further by adding daily routines that you actually enjoy ?
  • planning : do you make daily/weekly lists ? do you have a goal for the week/month/term ?
  • rest : do you give yourself a break ? are you being reasonable with your pace ? are you allowing yourself to rest before or after work is done? are you managing your time efficiently ?
  • fun stuff : do you make room for the fun stuff ? from sports to walking your dog with a friend to going to the movies...whatever it is, plan and have something to look forward to each day if you can.

The list could go on but that's a pretty good start.

Another way to think about all your habits, is think backwards. Close you eyes and picture the student you would like to be, then work backwards. What has this student done to get there ? How is he/she so relaxed ? how does he/she find the time to do so many fun stuff ?

Start with small goals, achievable goals then build up. Don't forget, if changes don't happen, changes won't happen. I understand changes can be confronting but if you are prepared and willing, you will be fine and unstoppable.

That's what I love to focus on with my students, I like to be the safety net that catches and brings you back on your feet.

Go on, change a few thing, make a list, prepare yourself and see how you go.

oohhh..and let me know !

xx
